Women's Rights
Women's Program Film Series
For the past four years, the Women’s Program at The Advocates has co-sponsored a film series with The Friends of the St. Paul Public Library. All films are free and open to the public.

Women's Human Rights Speaker Series
Launched on February 13, 2007, this series is dedicated to improving awareness of women’s human rights issues. The series is coordinated in partnership with  Briggs and Morgan and takes place on the second Tuesday of the month in February, April, June, August, October and December. Boxed lunches are provided by Briggs and Morgan.

International Women's Day Conference
In March The Advocates recognizes International Women's Day with a celebration of the diversity and strength of Minnesota women and an educational program that highlights advancements in women's rights and equality, encourages further activism, and promotes increased understanding and tolerance in our community.

Domestic Violence Reform Training
Our Women’s Human Rights Program has experience working internationally to monitor the implementation of legal reform to end violence against women.

Speakers Bureau Presentations
The staff and volunteers of The Advocates for Human Rights offer lectures and CLE presentations for groups on several women's rights subjects. Speakers bureau presentations are held on request.

 

Journey to Safety: The Battered Immigrant Woman's Experience

Journey to Safety is an unique stage presentation of the challenges facing battered refugee and immigrant women when negotiating legal, medical and government systems.  The Advocates for Human Rights and Pangea World Theater have created the Journey to Safety Video and Facilitators Guide to allow a wider audience access to this important and effective learning tool.

Lesson Plan: Beyond Pink and Blue: The Impact of Gender Stereotypes

In this lesson, students will learn about how gender stereotypes affect them and explore how gender is portrayed in the media.  (Grades 3-7)

In this lesson, students will learn about the history of women's rights, critically examine what obstacles women in the U.S. still face today, and discuss ways to address these barriers.  (Grades 8-12)
