| | | State Fair 2008: Immigration Fuels Our Nation
From August 21 through September 1, 2008, The Advocates for Human Rights participated for the fourth time in the Great Minnesota Get-Together by hosting an organizational exhibit at the State Fair. Through educational materials and activities, we educated visitors on the many positive aspects of immigration. The campaign was a success. Many visitors stopped to spin our wheel of immigration-related questions. Over the course of twelve days, The Advocates distributed 2,500 buttons, 1,950 fans, and 1,500 brochures. 277 people signed postcards to their legislators advocating for respecting the rights of migrants in any future immigration reform. Quotes from the Fair
"The United States of America isn't so much a nation as it is the place where people of all nations come together to form a union of all that is possible. We are the whole world come together to be one."
"My dad came to the States as a brasero laborer, he did well for himself and always said 'This is the land of opportunity.' To help yourself and your family you have to dream and dream big!"
"Time to practice tolerance and remember we are a nation of immigrants."
"No human being is illegal."
"Immigrants come to the United States for the dream of achieving something like education, apprenticeship, etc with the hope someday to come back to their original countries to apply their experiences here in the U.S."
