The Advocates at the Minnesota State Fair

Since 2005, The Advocates has hosted a booth at the Great Minnesota Get Together.  Each year we educate the public on a pressing issue.  Past topics have included torture, immigration, and economic and social rights.  See below for descriptions of past fairs and photos.

State Fair 2007: U Do Have Rights!

In 2007 we launched our Discover Human Rights toolkits as part of our U Do Have Rights/UDHR campaign to educate Americans about their rights under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), specifically the rights to Housing, Education, Health, and Food.

State Fair 2006: Immigration Fuels Our Nation

Thef our 2006 State Fair booth was “Immigration Fuels Our Nation.”  Through educational materials and activities we educated visitors on the many positive aspects of immigration.  The campaign was launched in the context of the current political debate on immigration policy, in order to provide accurate information and ensure human rights standards are upheld. The Advocates for Human Rights has been advocating for immigrants and refugees for over 20 years.  Click here for more information about the Immigration Fuels Our Nation Campaign.

State Fair 2005: Torture Destroys Us All

In our first year at the Fair, The Advocates launched the “Torture Destroys Us All” campaign for a torture-tree world. The Advocates for Human Rights developed the campaign with assistance from the Midwest Coalition for Human Rights for people and groups to use as they raise awareness about the issues of torture. Click here for more information about the Torture Destroys Us All Campaign.
