Immigration Detention

This presentation explores the issue of immigration detention and enforcement from a national and local perspective. Approximately 300,000 people are detained in a system of jails, prisons and detention centers around the United States each year. This presentation explores the forces driving the explosion in immigration detention, including who is subject to detention, detention conditions, alternatives to detention, and the rights of detainees.  The presentation concludes with an examination of the consequences of U.S. detention policies and ways forward to ensure adequate protection of detainees.
