The Past, Present, and Future of Immigration Policy Enforcement
In the summer of 2007, the Post-9/11 Lecture Series began as a way to facilitate community dialogue around immigration-related issues. It was created after The Advocates for Human Rights released its report, Voices From Silence: Personal Accounts of the Long-term Impact of 9/11, which discussed how the broader governmental and societal reactions to 9/11 have had a profound effect on the lives of refugees, immigrants, and religious minorities in the U.S. On June 25th, 2008, the 5th and final lecture will focus on the topic of the immigration raids and detentions which have accompanied greater enforcement policies in the state and nation. This lecture will be in a panel format, and will cover immigration policy enforcement since 9/11 and its impact on employers, the impact of the raids on communities and legal remedies, current U.S. immigration detention policy and practice, and a call to action for lawyers and advocates who wish to get involved.
