Women and the United Nations Human Rights System

Kasia Polanska is a Research Director at the International Women's Rights Action Watch, a women's human rights organization housed at the University of Minnesota's Hubert Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs.  She grew up in Poland and came to the United States as a refugee in the late 1980s. She holds a Master's degree in Latin American Studies from Stanford University and is currently working on her Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Minnesota. In the past 6 years, she has written and presented at the United Nations more than 20 country-specific reports for the UN human rights committees (Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women and Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights). She has taught several workshops and given presentations to both US audiences and international activists on issues related to the United Nations human rights system, the human rights of women, and international relations.
