Reginald Fynn, a lawyer and former Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, will discuss capital punishment in Sierra Leone and the recent movement to end the death penalty.  He will also discuss the impact of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, a war crimes tribunal that is not invoking the death penalty, on the abolition movement in his country.  Application for one CLE credit will be made.  This presentation is a brown bag lunch.  Beverages will be provided.      

Speaker biography____________________________________________________________________________

Reginald Fynn Jr., currently a 2004-2005 Hubert Humphrey Fellow at the University of MN, was educated in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and holds a degree in Arts with majors in English and International Relations.  He received his J.D. from the University of Sierra Leone where he specialized in Business Contracts and Corporate Law.  He was admitted to practice law in the High Court of Sierra Leone in 1998.  From 2002 until 2004, Mr. Fynn served as the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, where he developed a keen interest in human rights, public affairs, and the shaping of national policy.  Mr. Fynn currently maintains a private general legal practice in Freetown, and in addition, lectures on Business Law at the Milton Margai College of Education.  He also serves on the boards of the National Insurance Commission, the Legal Reform Initiative, and the National Scouts Movement.  In his free time, he enjoys reading novels, writing Krio poetry, and volunteering time with church organizations.
