Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) traces its history to 1865 when a young Swedish pastor named Eric Norelius and his congregation took in four orphaned immigrant children and later opened Vasa Lutheran Home for Children. LSS is the largest, statewide non-profit social service organization in Minnesota with over 2,200 employees who serve in 300 communities. Its services include: Services for Children and Famlies, Services for Seniors, Services for People with Disabilities including Refugee Services. LSS's vision is that all apeople will live and work in community with dignity, safety, and hope.l As an affiliate of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), its desire is to welcome newcomers to Minnesota from around the world. LSS Refugee Services assists federally approved refugees from various countries as they reunite with family members already living in Minnesota. It provides initial services to refugees, helping them to become self-sufficient in their new country. |
