The Universal Declaration of Human rights (UDHR) states that “a decent standard of living, adequate nutrition, health care, education, decent work and protection against calamities” are all important human rights. As a nation, we are entrusted to ensure the equal and non-discriminatory enjoyment of all people’s human rights.
The Discover Human Rights Toolkits take an honest look at economic, social, and cultural rights within in the United States with a focus on four different rights:
RIGHT TO EDUCATION RIGHT TO FOOD
RIGHT TO HEALTH RIGHT TO HOUSING
The Advocates for Human Rights believes that honestly looking at human rights violations in the U.S. will help us address their underlying causes and inspire us to promote positive social change.
It is time for the U.S. to return to a human rights leadership role. The country that led the way to creation of the UDHR must embrace the rights defined in that document for all of its people. The Discover Human Rights Institute challenges us all to get informed, get involved, and get others interested in our rights and responsibilities.
Download the Discover Human Rights Toolkits on the rights to education, food, health, and housing. Each toolkit includes quizzes, fact sheets, take action ideas, lists of national and local organizations working on these rights, and lesson plans for teachers.
