This presentation will focus on how attorneys and domestic violence advocates can work together as a team to provide the best services to domestic violence victims.  Discussion topics will include what advocates and attorneys can and cannot do, their responsibilities, and how they can be helpful to each other; conflict resolution when a tension arises in the team approach; and the ethical considerations for both attorneys and advocates when using a team approach to legal advocacy.  Discussion will include attorney-client relationship and how advocates being present during attorney-client conversation does not violate or break the privilege.  Other options for protecting client confidentiality, for both advocates and attorneys, via work product agreements and releases of information will also be considered.
